Our Work

Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County brings people together to build homes, communities, and hope.

Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County has an open-door policy. We welcome anyone to apply to any of our programs, volunteer, donate, work or simply connect with us regardless of their race, religion, gender, age, politics, or any other basis. We believe all people should have access to clean, safe, affordable housing and welcome others who are also committed to this belief.

By building affordable housing, and working to maintain and preserve the affordable housing stock in San Luis Obispo County, we are helping to create stability in our community.

Our work centers on three of the Habitat for Humanity global initiatives.

Habitat for Humanity for San Luis Obispo County affiliated with Habitat for Humanity International in 1997. Since that time, we’ve primarily focused on three initiatives in pursuit of our mission to build homes, communities and hope in San Luis Obispo County.

Homeownership & Building

Since 2006 our homeownership and building program has provided 17 new, affordable homes to eligible first-time homeowners in San Luis Obispo County. In June 2023 we broke ground on nine homes in Paso Robles.

Home Preservation

With our Home Preservation program, we assist low-income residents in preserving or maintaining their property. When the mortgage is paid but there are no additional funds to maintain the home, a homeowner can apply to partner with Habitat SLO County to complete the needed minor repairs, landscaping or painting. With this initiative, homeowners work together with Habitat volunteers to maintain the affordable housing stock in our community.

Neighborhood Revitalization

Through the Neighborhood Revitalization program, volunteers in our community, local businesses, and Habitat SLO County come together to address local needs and develop community spirit through an array of services and partnerships. With this initiative, we support neighborhood coalitions in Paso Robles and in Oceano and complete neighborhood beautification projects throughout the county.

Our work is supported by our retail stores, volunteers, and generous donations from our community.

We are pledged to the letter and spirit of U.S. policy for the achievement of equal housing opportunity throughout the Nation. We encourage and support an affirmative advertising and marketing program in which there are no barriers to obtaining housing because of race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, or national origin.
